Admission Requirements

Applicants for training at IPPNJ must have, or be eligible to have, legal entitlement or licensure to practice psychotherapy independently in one of the recognized mental health professions. Applicants with a Doctorate in Psychology who are not yet licensed are eligible for training at IPPNJ, provided that their clinical practices are confined to agencies where they can practice legally or that they possess a provisional permit to practice privately. Certificates of completion will not be granted, however, until they have achieved licensure. It is the Institute's understanding of New Jersey law that the independent practice of psychotherapy is restricted primarily to social workers, licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, and pastoral counselors.
