About IPPNJ
IPPNJ Candidates Organization

All IPPNJ students are encouraged to become involved with the Candidates Organization, which acts as a clearinghouse for student concerns, a support network for the professional needs of candidates, and an advocate for issues of concern to therapists in training at IPPNJ. The Candidates Organization has its own separate structure and by-laws, and elects its officers annually. The President of the Candidates Organization, or his or her designee, is automatically, according to the IPPNJ by-laws, a voting member of the Board of Directors. The Organization is also the vehicle through which student members are assigned to IPPNJ committees or projects. Periodically, the Candidates Organization arranges its own programs on topics of particular salience to analysts in training.

The Candidates Organization (CO) is comprised of all persons accepted for training at IPPNJ. The CO exists to serve as a forum for candidates' interests, a channel for communication between the student body and the faculty and a way to represent the students by participation in various faculty committees. IPPNJ values the contributions and needs of candidates and includes candidates as members of the IPPNJ Board, the Training Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Clinic Committee and the Committee on Continuing Education and Consultation.

The CO includes candidates from all geographic areas in which IPPNJ functions in the state of New Jersey as well as from all levels of training within the Institute. Candidates are able to meet one another, network and develop social relationships at CO meetings and other IPPNJ functions.

Starting in the fall of 1997 all new candidates, upon acceptance into IPPNJ, will be contacted by an experienced candidate in their area before classes start. The purpose is simply to reach out to new candidates and help them to comfortably become a part of the IPPNJ community.

The CO has taken on many diverse roles over the years. Previous undertakings include organizing faculty case presentations on special topics and publishing the IPPNJ Candidate-Faculty Directory. Brunches are also organized, in each of the three geographic areas, which allow for socializing and networking between students and faculty. For current candidates not involved with the CO, or if you are not currently affiliated with IPPNJ and are interested in finding out more about the institute from a student's perspective, please call Candidate Organization Co-Chairs Gayle Coakley, phone number (908) 665-7755 and Marlene Morris, (732) 422-6665.
